Don Ed Hardy was born in 1945 in Southern California.  He started drawing tattoos on the neighborhood kids from his mother’s house when he was 10.  Hardy received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in printmaking from the San Francisco Arts Institute.  After declining a scholarship to Yale, he started tattooing full-time in 1967 to become one of the most well-respected tattoo artists in the world.

Although now retired from tattooing, Hardy has written 12 books and started the first tattoo industry trade magazine, Tattoo Time.  Hardy is also a prolific painter with over 40 exhibits,mentors artists at his San Francisco studio, and has concentrated on non-tattoo based art forms since the 1980s.

Don Ed Hardy has added his well-earned reputation to a clothing line in collaboration with Christian Audigier.  Worn by the elite, it’s street fashion and hardcore fashion that combines clothing art, tattoo art, and counter culture designs.
